How to Start Remodeling Your Kitchen

Kitchen Remodel

I Want to Remodel My Kitchen, but I Don’t Know Where to Begin.

With big-box store cabinets, the standard ROI (Return on Investment) that a mid-range kitchen provides is about 50%-60% of your overall budget, and the average budget for a kitchen remodel could be between $12,000 and $35,000. However, if you use Custom Service Hardware’s high-quality ready-to-assemble cabinets, your ROI could be MUCH higher and your budget could be MUCH lower! That in itself is a great reason to start the project you have always wanted to accomplish – your dream kitchen. Remodeling your kitchen can provide immense satisfaction once the project is complete. Not only can you have a great return on investment, but you can customize your kitchen to fit your exact needs. The problem most people have is getting started. Kitchen remodeling is a big project and one many people won’t do simply because they don’t know where to begin. Or worse, they’ll outsource the work for tens of thousands more dollars than they need to pay when they could get the job done themselves!  The good news is doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

The key thing to remember is that kitchen remodeling is not intimidating if your appliances aren’t moving. Most kitchen-remodel projects replace outdated or worn cabinets with new, more functional ones. We want to help you get started on this daunting kitchen project, and our team can be with you through each step. From assisting with your layout to ordering the right cabinets and accessories, our cabinet representatives take pride in working through your questions, order placement, and shipment reception for no additional charge! Choose Your Style.

Most people have a pretty good idea of their dream kitchen design. Whether you’ve browsed through Pinterest, talked to a designer, or perused through your favorite home magazine, you need to choose your kitchen style. This also includes “reading the home”. If you have a century-old farmhouse, a set of modern slab cabinets would probably not be a cohesive look to the rest of your home.

Cabinets come in a wide variety of colors, stains, and styles. You’ll be able to find one that both fits your budget and your style through Custom Service Hardware because we offer over 60 different cabinet lines to choose from! Today, the most popular, versatile, and aesthetically-pleasing cabinet style is the Shaker cabinet. Shaker cabinets fit most all design styles and are timeless (which is great if you don’t want to redo your kitchen in another ten years to keep up with the latest trends).

More specifically, Custom Service Hardware’s best-selling cabinets are the white shaker style cabinets (such as the Essex and Galaxy Frost series). White is a popular cabinet choice because it can make a small space feel larger. White cabinets can make your space feel brighter and cleaner from a psychological standpoint. On the other hand, dark cabinets can provide depth, richness, and a high-end luxury feel to kitchen spaces. Your cabinet choice is dependent on your vision for the space. So, take the time to look through many cabinet-style options and schedule some time to talk to our cabinet representatives. Our team would be happy to help make suggestions based on your design style.

Plan Your Cabinet Layout.

Remember that kitchen remodeling is not intimidating as long as your appliances aren’t moving. If you are redesigning the layout of your kitchen including appliances, you will want to do more advanced research for appliance layout considerations (do I need a building permit, are the outlets where I need them, how do I move the plumbing and gas lines, etc.?). However, if the appliances are not moving, you have a lot less to consider.

First, you will need to measure and note the layout of each wall in your kitchen space (including doors, windows, and appliances) to know exactly how much room you have to work with. Once you’ve measured and noted the kitchen wall spaces as a whole, mark the door, window and appliance widths and how much remaining space you have for cabinets. Do this for each wall for both upper and lower cabinets, double-checking your measurements and noting your layout carefully.

This is a great time to consider adding extra storage space where you didn’t have it before. Tall pantry cabinets, cabinets with roll-out shelves, or simply adding cabinets where there were none can give your kitchen a cohesive look and give you more storage space for your kitchen tools, cookware and dinnerware.

A Tip from our Team: Avoid ordering 12 inch wide cabinets if you can. There isn’t a whole lot that can fit properly in a 12 inch cabinet, so it would be better to order one 24 inch cabinet verses two side-by-side 12 inch cabinets.

While planning your layout and choosing your cabinets, you may have questions or want to hear from a professional. That is where our Cabinet Representatives come in! You can schedule an appointment to talk with them about layouts, measurements, assembly, installation, and so much more!
